The effect of sand dune area plantation on soil aggregation
Abstract
To determine the effect on the soil aggregate of stone pine (Pinus pinea L.) plantation on the Turan Emeksiz Forest established to stop wind erosion of the Tarsus-Ortakumluk sand dunes were investigat d under the stone pine canopy. Micromorphological properties, CaCO3, organic matter and mycorrhizae potential were undertaken on soils of each plot. Undisturbed soil aggregate samples were also collected from all plantation plots for SEM/microprobe studies. Undisturbed soil aggregate samples revealed the in-situ humification of plant residues together with the development of fungal hyphae (mycelia) binding mineral surfaces. Thus, CaCO3, organic matter and mycorrhiza hyphae were effected on soil aggregate on the sand dunes
