Computer Driven Plotter
Abstract
Standard parallel port, commonly found on all PCs, is a specified connection point for a computer to communicate with various devices. Unlike a serial port, the transmission of the data from a parallel port is faster and simple. In this project, a 30x30 cm2 plotter that moves in two directions with the help of two 12 V dc motors and has a connection to the computer via parallel port is designed and realized. Instead of using mostly preferred step motors: which do not need a feedback for control, dc motors are used making speed of the device higher and the control circuit more complex. Furthermore, a sensitivity level of 0.13 mm is obtained and the error tolerance is quite reduced with the adjustments of the driving circuits of the motors and the gear system used. In this paper, the electronics, mechanics and the software of the system are explained.
