Abstract

Küreselleşen dünyada lojistik altyapı ve ulaştırma yatırımları, ülkelerin dış ticaret performansını doğrudan etkileyen temel unsurlardan biri haline gelmiştir. Ulaştırma altyapısının geliştirilmesi, ticaret maliyetlerini azaltarak ithalat ve ihracat hacmini artırmakta, aynı zamanda ekonomik büyümeye katkı sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Doğu Avrupa ve Orta Asya ülkelerinde ulaştırma yatırımları ve lojistik performansın dış ticaret üzerindeki etkisi panel veri analizleri kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Çalışma, 2005-2021 dönemi için Azerbaycan, Bulgaristan, Çin, Gürcistan, Yunanistan, Macaristan, İtalya, Romanya ve Türkiye'yi kapsamaktadır.
Pedroni eşbütünleşme testleri ile değişkenler arasında uzun dönemli ilişkiler tespit edilmiş ve Driscoll-Kraay standart hataları ile sabit etkiler modeli kullanılarak tahminler yapılmıştır. Bulgular, lojistik performansın ithalat üzerinde güçlü bir etkisi olduğunu, ancak ihracat üzerindeki etkisinin sınırlı kaldığını göstermektedir. Ekonomik büyüklük ise dış ticaretin hem ithalat hem de ihracat tarafında önemli bir belirleyici olarak öne çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma, ulaştırma yatırımları ve lojistik performansın dış ticaret süreçlerindeki rolünü daha iyi anlamaya yönelik önemli katkılar sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.

The Relationship Between Transport Investments, Logistics Performance, and Foreign Trade in Eastern Europe and Central Asia: A Panel Data Analysis

Abstract

In a globalized world, logistics infrastructure and transport investments have become fundamental factors directly affecting the foreign trade performance of countries. Developing transport infrastructure reduces trade costs, increases import and export volumes, and contributes to economic growth. This study examines the impact of transport investments and logistics performance on foreign trade in Eastern Europe and Central Asia using panel data analyses. The study covers the period 2005–2021 and includes Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, China, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, and Turkey.
The Pedroni cointegration tests confirm long-term relationships among the variables, while the Driscoll-Kraay standard errors and fixed effects model are used to obtain robust estimations. The findings reveal that logistics performance has a significant and positive impact on imports, while its effect on exports remains limited. Economic size emerges as a significant determinant for both imports and exports. This study aims to provide valuable insights into the role of transport investments and logistics performance in the foreign trade processes of the analyzed regions.
