The Relationship Between Human Capital and Economic Growth: The Case of Turkey

Abstract

Recently, human capital has been accepted as a significant determinant of economic growth. Thus, the relationship between human capital and economic growth is one of attractive subjects in the economic literature. The purpose of this study is to investigate the causality relationship between human capital and economic growth in Turkey for the period 1960-2012 by using Vecm model and Toda Yamamoto causality test. In the study reel GDP per capita,  the number of graduates in higher educational institutions, the number of graduates in vocational and technical schools variables are used. According to result of the study there is uni-directional causality from the number of graduates in vocational and technical schools to reel GDP per capita and uni-directional causality from reel GDP per capita to the number of graduates in higher educational institutions.
