Investigation of nutritional status of low income countries with panel data

Abstract

The most important resource of a society is its children. Infant mortality rates are the most preferred indicator in development comparisons among the countries. By looking at the infant mortality rate of a country, information can be obtained on many issues such as the country's welfare level, whether people can access basic health services and whether there is adequate nutrition. In this context, this study aims to reveal its relationship with nutrition in low-income countries where infant mortality is highest. Within the scope of the research, the effect of indicators related to nutrition and clean water belonging to 58 countries on infant mortality rate was examined by panel data analysis method. The time dimension of the variables covers the 2000-2019 periods. When the results of the research are examined, it has been determined that if there is an increase of 1% in the depth of food in low-income countries, there may be a decrease of 0.43% in infant mortality. On the other hand, it is seen that the prevalence of poverty has an increasing effect on infant mortality and it is significant in the model. In addition, it is seen that the most devastating effect on infant mortality is the increase in the depth of food, and for this reason, providing access to sufficient food is of vital importance.

Düşük gelir grubundaki ülkelerin yetersiz beslenme durumunun panel veri analiz yöntemiyle incelenmesi

Abstract

Bir toplumun en önemli kaynağı çocuklarıdır. Ülkeler arası gelişmişlik karşılaştırmalarında en çok tercih edilen gösterge bebek ölüm oranları olmaktadır. Bir ülkenin bebek ölüm oranına bakılarak ülkenin refah düzeyi, insanların temel sağlık hizmetlerine erişip erişememe durumu ve yeterli düzeyde beslenmenin olup olmadığı gibi birçok konu hakkında bilgi sahibi olunabilir. Bu kapsamda ele alınan bu araştırma, bebek ölümlerinin en fazla yaşandığı düşük gelirli ülkelerde beslenme ile ilişkisini ortaya koymak amacı taşımaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında 58 ülkeye ait beslenme ve temiz suyla ilgili göstergelerin bebek ölüm oranı üzerinde etkisi panel veri analiz yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Değişkenlerin zaman boyutu 2000-2019 dönemlerini kapsamaktadır. Araştırma sonuçları incelendiğinde düşük gelir grubu ülkelerde gıda derinliğinde gerçekleşen %1 düzeyinde bir artışın gerçekleşmesi durumunda gerçekleşen bebek ölümlerinde %0,43 düzeyinde bir azalışın olabileceği tespit edilmiştir. Diğer taraftan yoksulluk düzeyinin yaygınlaşmasında bebek ölümleri üzerinde artırıcı bir etki yaptığı ve model içerisinde anlamlı çıktığı görülmektedir. Ayrıca bebek ölümleri üzerindeki en yıkıcı etkinin gıda derinliğindeki artış olduğu ve bu sebepten yeterli gıdaya ulaşımın sağlanmasının hayati öneme sahip olduğu görülmektedir.
