Examining the Digital Addiction of Prospective Science Teachers in Terms of Different Variables

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the digital addiction of science teacher candidates studying at a state university in terms of different variables (gender, class level, mother and father education level, academic average). The survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The "Digital Addiction Scale" developed by Kesici and Fidan Tunç (2018) for university students was used in the research. The scale consists of 19 items and comprises five sub-dimensions: excessive use, relapse, disruption of life flow, emotional state, and inability to quit. A total of 123 science teacher candidates studying at a state university participated in the study. The results revealed no significant differences based on gender, class level, mother's education level, or academic average variables. However, a significant difference was found only in the emotional state sub-dimension based on the father's education level variable.
