Family In the Eyes of Preschool Children: Representations Through Drawings

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine children's perceptions of family through their drawings. This study was designed in a qualitative research pattern using a survey model. Since the study was conducted in a single classroom of an independent preschool located in the city center, a case study approach was preferred. The study group consists of 15 children (6 girls, 9 boys) aged 60-72 months who were enrolled in the same classroom of an independent preschool institution. The study employed typical case sampling as the sampling method. Therefore, the study group was limited to a classroom in the city center that could represent the general population to some extent. Data were collected using the draw-and-tell technique. The children's drawings were analyzed using the content analysis method. The results of the study indicated that children predominantly used blue and green colors in their family drawings. It was found that the most frequently used symbols in response to the question “What is family to you?” were houses and the sun, that the most depicted setting was a house, and that the human figures they drew most often included their mothers and themselves.

Okul Öncesi Dönem Çocuklarının Gözünden Aile: Resimlerle Anlatı

Abstract

Okul öncesi dönemdeki çocukların aile kavramına ilişkin algıları, onların sosyal ve duygusal gelişimlerini anlamada önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu nedenle araştırmanın amacı okul öncesi dönemdeki çocukların ‘aile’ kavramına yönelik algılarının resim yoluyla incelenmesi olarak belirlenmiştir. Tarama modelindeki bu araştırma nitel desende düzenlenmiştir. Araştırma şehir merkezinde yer alan bir bağımsız anaokulundaki tek bir sınıfta gerçekleştirildiği için durum çalışması tercih edilmiştir. Sınırlı zaman diliminde bir durumun betimlendiği ya da temaların ortaya çıkarıldığı yaklaşım durum çalışmasıdır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, 2024-2025 eğitim ve öğretim yılında Rize ili Merkez ilçesinde Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı’na bağlı bağımsız anaokulunda öğrenim gören aynı sınıftaki 60-72 aylık 15 çocuktan (6 kız, 9 erkek) oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada örnekleme yöntemlerinden tipik durum örneklemesinden yararlanılmıştır. Bu nedenle çalışma grubu şehir merkezinde görece geneli yansıtabilecek bir sınıfın seçimi ile sınırlıdır. Araştırmada veriler çiz-anlat tekniği ile elde edilmiştir. Çocuklardan toplanan resimler ‘içerik analizi’ yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda çocukların aile resimlerinde en çok mavi ve yeşil rengi kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Çocukların ‘aile sizce nedir?’ sorusuna yönelik resimlerinde kullandıkları sembollerin en çok ev ve güneş olduğu, resimlerinde mekan olarak en çok ev resmettikleri ve çizdikleri insan figürlerinin anneleri ve kendileri olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
