19. ve 20. Yüzyıl Modern Batı Ezoterik/Okültist Hareketleri Üzerine Dion Fortune'un Katkısı Bağlamında Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

On dokuzuncu ve yirminci yüzyılda Batı okültizmi ve ezoterizmi Helena Blavatsky, MacGregor Mathers, Aleister Crowley, İsrail Regardie ve Dion Fortune gibi başat şahsiyetlerin ellerinde şekillenmiştir. Blavatsky’nin kendinden öncekilerin ezoterik bakış açısını oryantal öğelere öncelik vererek yeniden biçimlendirmesi modern dönemin başlangıcı olarak kabul edilmektedir. Ondan sonrakiler Blavatsky’nin öğretisini reddetmemekle beraber az çok değiştirerek oluşturdukları deneyimlerini yeni kardeşlik cemiyetlerine tatbik etmekteydiler. Meşhur olan mahlasıyla Dion Fortune yirminci yüzyıl Batı ezoterik akımlarına yön veren kişiler arasında kuvvetli kalemi, kendine has üslubu ve yeni sayılabilecek kabulleriyle farklı bir şahsiyet olmuştur. Onun, modern Batı ezoterik cemiyetlerinin bir çoğuyla ilişkili çalışmalar yapması, önemli okültistlerden dersler almış olması ve sonunda da kendi topluluğunu kurması bu alanda göz ardı edilemez bir etkisi ve katkısının olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu çalışma Blavatsky ve sonrasındaki Batı Ezoterizmini genel hatlarıyla incelerken Fortune’un ortaya koyduğu yönteme ve yeni bakış açısına odaklanmaktadır. Bu çerçevede söz konusu katkıyı karşılaştırmalı bir bakış açısıyla aktarmayı ve yorumlamayı amaçlamaktadır.

An Evaluation of the Contribution of Dion Fortune on Modern Western Esoteric/Occultist Movements in the 19th and 20th Centuries

Abstract

In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, such prominent figures as Helena Blavatsky, MacGregor Mathers, Aleister Crowley, Israel Regardie, and Dion Fortune shaped Western occultism and esotericism. Blavatsky's reshaping of the esoteric perspective of his predecessors by giving priority to oriental elements is accepted as the beginning of the modern period. After him, although they did not reject Blavatsky's teaching, they were applying their experiences to new fraternities by changing them to some degree. With her famous pseudonym, Dion Fortune has become a distinct personality among the people who steered the twentieth-century Western esoteric movements with her strong pen, unique style and new acceptances. Her work is related to many modern Western esoteric societies. She studied many modern Western esoteric societies, took lessons from influential occultists, and eventually established her community. These show her undeniable contributions to the field. This study focuses on Fortune's method and a new perspective while examining Blavatsky and later Western Esotericism in its general terms. It aims to convey and interpret the contribution in question from a comparative perspective.
