Abstract

The Relationship between Nutrition and Fertility in Dairy Cows

Year 2024, Volume: 7 Issue: 1, 378 - 398, 22.01.2024

Abstract

Reproductive performance in cattle is a multifactorial variable in which genetics, nutrition, uterine health and systemic health, management and temperature control, bull efficiency and practices related to artificial insemination play a role. This relationship between nutrition and fertility in cattle requires businesses to focus more on this issue. With a good herd management, the desired maximum production capacity can be reached and the profitability of the business can be positively affected. Nutrition modulates reproductive function through gonadotropin secretion balance, ovarian activity, and local effects on the uterus. General nutritional deficiency, which results in a large body weight loss, causes infertility by delaying puberty, disrupting ovarian activities and reproductive cycle. On the other hand, as a result of obesity shaped due to overnutrition, folliculogenesis deteriorates, oocyte quality decreases, and embryonic failure may occur and reproduction may be adversely affected. In addition to energy, protein, fat and other macro - micro elements have direct effects on reproduction.
In this study; The relationship of nutritional elements such as energy, protein and vitamin with fertility was compiled.
