The Asteraceae family is widely distributed throughout the world and is considered one of the most important plant families due to its vast genus and species richness. This study conducted chromosome counting and detailed karyotype analysis of five species from four different genera of the Asteraceae family, including (Chardinia orientalis (L.) Knutze, Cnicus benedictus L., Lactuca seriola L., Lactuca intricata Boiss., and Sonchus oleraceus L. The study found that Lactuca seriola and Lactuca intricata species are diploid and contain n=9 somatic chromosome sets, while Cnicus benedictus and Chardinia orientalis species are also diploid and contain n=11 somatic chromosome sets. Sonchus oleraceus species, on the other hand, was determined to be tetraploid and contains n=8 chromosome sets.
Dünya genelinde kozmopolit bir yayılışa sahip olan Asteraceae familyası geniş cins ve tür zenginliği ile önemli bitki familyaları arasında yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Asteraceae familyasına ait dört farklı cinsten beş farklı türün (Chardinia orientalis (L.) Knutze, Cnicus benedictus L., Lactuca seriola L., Lactuca intricata Boiss., ve Sonchus oleraceus L.) kromozom sayımı ve detaylı karyotip analizleri yapılmıştır. Bu araştırma sonuçlarına göre; Lactuca seriola ve Lactuca intricata türleri n=9, Cnicus benedictus ve Chardinia orientalis türleri n=11 somatik kromozom seti içermektedir ve diploittir. Sonchus oleraceus türü ise n=8 kromozom seti içermekte olup, tetraploid olarak tespit edilmiştir.
