Abstract

Beth Singler’ın Religion and Artificial Intelligence: An Introduction (2025) adlı kitabı, din ile yapay zekâ (YZ) arasındaki giderek karmaşıklaşan ilişkiyi kültürel ve dijital antropoloji perspektifinden inceleyen öncü bir çalışmadır. Singler, din ve yapay zekâyı “hareket halindeki iki nesne” olarak ele alır ve bu iki alanın kesişimini “dolanıklıklar” (entanglements) kavramı üzerinden analiz eder. Kitap, teoriyi veriye önceden dayatmayan, dijital etnografi ve gömülü kuram (grounded theory) yaklaşımına dayanan disiplinlerarası bir metodoloji benimser. Yazar, din ile yapay zekâ arasındaki ilişkiyi üç temel kategori altında sınıflandırır: reddetme, benimseme ve uyum sağlama. Singler conceptualizes religion and AI as “two moving targets” and analyzes their intersections as forms of “entanglement,” challenging the assumption that religion belongs solely to the past while AI represents a purely secular future. Methodologically, the book adopts a bricolage approach rooted in religious studies, drawing on digital ethnography and grounded theory to allow theory to emerge from empirical data. Singler structures the relationship between religion and AI around three key categories: rejection, adoption, and adaptation. Rejection is illustrated through Christian and Muslim apocalyptic responses that frame AI as a threat to divine order.
