Abstract

The aim of this study is to present some typical characteristics of Doctor Hikmet, an admirer of the Western Culture and the protogonist of An Exile (Bir Sürgün) novel. Dr. Hikmet admires the Western Culture through the books he reads. He dreams a life in Paris, France, so he goes to Paris. However, the life in Pa-ris contradicts with the life in his dreams. He also feels himself in exile in this city. The miserable situations that our intellectuals, as Dr. Hikmet falls in, confussion and failure are the main points identified in this study.

Romanlardaki Batılı Hayat İçinde “Bir Sürgün”: Doktor Hikmet

Abstract

Bu incelemenin amacı Bir Sürgün romanının kahramanı, batı hayranı Doktor Hikmet’in, tipik bazı özelliklerini dikkatlere sunmaktır. Doktor Hikmet, kitaplardan okuduğu batı kültürüne hayran olur. Kafasında Fransa’da, Paris’te bir hayat hayal eder. Paris’e kaçar. Ancak Paris’teki hayat hayal ettiği hayatla çatışır. Orada da kendini sürgünde hisseder. Bu yazıda Doktor Hikmet’in şahsında, II. Abdülhamit dönemi aydınlarının içine düştükleri zavallı durum karşısında şaşkınlık ve başarısızlıkları tespit edilmiştir.
