Exploring Digital Gambling Addiction of Students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine whether the students studying at sports sciences faculty have a digital gambling addiction level and for what reasons this addiction increases, in line with certain parameters. At the same time, the effects of students' educational environments and family structures on this addiction were also examined. The study sample consisted of 10 students studying at the Faculty of Sports Sciences. In the study, a case study design was preferred among qualitative research methods; data were collected through a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher. The findings revealed that digital gambling addiction is shaped by multidimensional factors such as social environment, family pressure, economic inadequacy and easy access to digital platforms, beyond individual preferences. As a result, digital gambling addiction is a type of behavioral addiction shaped by different parameters such as individual impulses, social environment effect, economic pressures and ease of technological access. Therefore, it is thought that preventive and intervention strategies should be structured in a multi-level manner, not only for individual behaviors, but also for digital infrastructures, social environment norms and economic inequalities.
