The Relationship Between Educational Workers’ Emotional Intelligence And Levels Of Burnout

Abstract

The latest management theories indicate that rational as well as social and emotional elements should be brought to the fore in an organization for said organization to be successful. As a result of this development, studies analysing factors influencing workers’ organizational behaviour have increased. One of the studied aspects is the burnout experienced by workers. One of the many factors affecting workers’ burnout is their emotional intelligence. This study aims at exploring the possibility of a relationship between educational workers’ emotional intelligence and their levels of burnout. The study’s sample consists of 1049 teachers and managers selected from all over Turkey. As a result of the correlation analysis, it has been found that there was a relationship between educational workers’ emotional intelligence and their levels of burnout. Moreover, it has been determined that there was a negative relationship between educational workers stress management abilities and burnout, and a positive relationship between their interpersonal skills and burnout. In light of these findings and considering the fact that skills pertaining to emotional intelligence can be improved, it has been proposed that stress management abilities of educational workers should be improved and further studies should be conducted to explore factors leading to educational workers’ with interpersonal skills to experience more burnout
