Change in the Perception of Teaching Profession Ethics by Primary School Teachers and Student Primary School Teachers Over Time
Abstract
The ethics in the teaching profession is, while doing the teaching profession, the rules, principles and responsibilities that must be fulfilled with in relation to the students, society and individuals in the same profession group. In this study, the changes in the perceptions of professional ethics were investigated according to opinions of elementary school teachers who are still working in elementary schools affiliated to Giresun Provincial Directorate of National Education and student elementary teachers who continue their education at Giresun University Education Faculty, Elementary Education Department, Elementary School Teachers Program. Research is the screening method of quantitative research methods. "The Teacher Professional Ethical Principles Scale" originally belonging to Manolova-Yalçın was used within the scope of her permission. The scale consists of items that include ethics principles toward the society, the school, the profession, the colleagues, the students and the parents. In the survey, the changes in the views of elementary school teachers regarding teaching profession ethics, as their pedagogy training progresses and the application experiences in the area are reshaped. The results of the research showed: Being a novice teachers; first, second, third and fourth grade students in education faculty makes significant difference in the views of participants about teacher professional ethic codes. Except the ethical codes toward the society, for the all dimensions of scale there are significant difference in the views of the elementary school teachers who have been working in their first ten years and student teachers who pursue their education at the education faculty in different class. The elementary teachers who are working on the field have more positive views than the students who are still educated in the faculty.
