Investigation of Social Work Students' Problem Areas and Help Seeking Behaviors

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the problems of social work students and their help seeking behaviors. The questionnaire form prepared by the researchers was used as data collection tool in the study which was designed according to the quantitative research design. Within the scope of the research, 205 students who have been studying at Selcuk University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Social Work were reached. As a result of the study, it was concluded that social work students had the most problems related to the future anxiety. Although social work students generally try to solve the problems they face, it is seen that they apply to professional help resources in case of health problems. It has been concluded that the students studying in social work department, which is defined as a professional help profession, have no prejudices against receiving professional help and have access to professional help resources partially. Social work students stated that social work education has raised awareness about the problems and raise awareness about the sources of help. In relation to the research results it is emphasized that psychological counseling and guidance units in the universities should be expanded and students should be made aware of the various problem areas and sources of professional help.
