Assessment of Life Expectancy in Turkey Between 2007-2014 Using Different Life Table Methods
Öz
Abstract: Healthy datas are needed for the analysis to determination of any community’s development, changes and health problems. As life tables bring out more detailed reports with mortality, it’s possible to make a comparison in terms of life expectancy. In our study, life expectancy for male and female individuals in Turkey between 2007 and 2014 calculated by “Abridged” and “Reed-Merrel” life table methods. Related datas to calculate life expaectancy are taken from Turkish Statistical Institute. The aim of our study is to make estimates about the health level of Turkey based on life tables and to show lifes according to gender time with graphs. After an 8-year review, there is no difference between “Abridged Life Table” and “Reed-Merrel Life Table” for zero age life expectancy (e0 age/year). There is a difference according to gender for life expectancy calculated from birth. Life expectancy for females is approximately 5 age/year more than males. When life expectanct values are examined on a time basis, regardless of gender and method, there is a difference among times due to 2007-2009 years. In 2009, life expectancy values were decreased both for males and females and it continued steadily until 2014. As a result, very close life expectancy values are calculated for males and females with both methods in all times. Therefore, we suggest “abridged life table” due to ease of application. In 2013, zero life expectancy for females is 76.64 where it is 71.95 for males in Turkey. According to yhe WHO (World Health Organization) results, in 2013, Switzerland has the highest life expectancy with a values of 85.3 for females and 80.8 for males, where in Greece 78.6 for females and 83.9 males. Among 20 countries, Turkey is at 16th position for females and 14th for males.
