Opinions and Experiences of Pregnant Women Regarding Prenatal Care Services in the Pandemic and Precautions Taken to Protect Against COVID-19: A Qualitative Study

Abstract

Objective: As COVID-19 spread around the world, the precautions taken by pregnant women and the conduct of prenatal care services attracted attention. In this study, it was aimed to examine the opinions and experiences of pregnant women regarding prenatal care services during the pandemic and the precautions they took to protect themselves from COVID-19. Methods: Descriptive qualitative design was used in the research. The study was carried out phenomenologically on 21 pregnant women. Semi-structured interviews and purposive sampling method were used. Verbatim transcription was used for content analysis. Results: Two main themes and seven sub-themes were determined in the study. It was determined that the pregnant women took the basic precautions to be protected from COVID-19, applied social isolation, did not limit the use of prenatal care services, did not change the institution where they would give birth, received qualified prenatal care and were not satisfied with the care they received. Conclusion: While the pandemic continues, it is important to pay attention to the social and psychological health of pregnant women as well as their physical health in the prenatal care service provided.

Gebelerin Pandemide Prenatal Bakım Hizmetlerine Yönelik Görüş ve Deneyimleri ile COVID-19'dan Korunmak için Aldıkları Önlemler: Nitel Çalışma

Öz

Amaç: COVID-19 dünya çapında yayılırken, gebelerin aldıkları önlemler ve prenatal bakım hizmetlerinin yürütülmesi konuları dikkat çekmiştir. Bu araştırmada, gebelerin pandemide prenatal bakım hizmetlerine yönelik görüş ve deneyimleri ile COVID-19'dan korunmak için aldıkları önlemlerin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Araştırmada tanımlayıcı nitel tasarım kullanıldı. Araştırma 21 gebe üzerinde fenomenolojik olarak yapıldı. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ve amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi kullanıldı. İçerik analizinde, verbatim transkripsiyon kullanıldı. Bulgular: Araştırmada iki ana tema ve yedi alt tema belirlendi. Gebelerin COVID-19’dan korunmak için alınması gereken temel önlemleri aldıkları, sosyal izolasyon uyguladıkları, prenatal bakım hizmetlerinin kullanımında kısıtlamaya gitmedikleri, doğum yapacakları kurumu değiştirmedikleri, nitelikli prenatal bakım aldıkları ve aldıkları bakımdan memnun kalmadıkları saptandı. Sonuç: Pandemi devam ederken, sunulan prenatal bakım hizmetinde gebelerin fiziksel sağlığı yanı sıra sosyal ve psikolojik sağlığına da özen gösterilmesi önem arz etmektedir.
