Hemşire Öğrencilerin Afete Müdahale Öz Yeterliliğinin Değerlendirilmesi: Tanımlayıcı ve Kesitsel Çalışma

Year 2024, , 206 - 215, 25.03.2024
https://doi.org/10.38108/ouhcd.1258106

Abstract

An Evaluation of the Disaster Response Self-Efficacy of Nursing Students: A Descriptive and Cross-sectional Study

Year 2024, , 206 - 215, 25.03.2024
https://doi.org/10.38108/ouhcd.1258106

Abstract

Objectives: This study was carried out to evaluate the disaster response self-efficacy of nursing students and the influencing factors.
Methods: The population of the study, which was arranged descriptively, consisted of 3rd and 4th year nursing students studying at a state university. The data were collected face to face between the 10th and 15th of January 2023. The “Socio-demographic Information Form” and “Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale” were used as data collection tools.
Results: A percentage of 65.5% of the students were female, 57.1% were 4th year students and 53.7% had never experienced any disasters before. It was determined that 63.3% of the students had not taken classes about disasters, 21.5% did not know about the contents of emergency and disaster kits, and 19.8% did not know about triage. It was established that male gender and exposure to disasters were the determinants of disaster response adequacy, which variables predicted 14% of the scale score.
Conclusion: It has been concluded that the disaster response competence of nursing students is not at the desired level and that their disaster preparation is insufficient. Considering the position and importance of nurses in the preparation, response, and recovery stages of disasters, it is recommended that information about disasters is given, drills are organized and activities with the participation of the community are increased.
