The Relationship of Psychological Resilience with Type D Personality Traits and Childhood Abuse and Neglect in Nursing Candidates

Hemşire Adaylarında Psikolojik Sağlamlığın D Tip Kişilik Özellikleri ile Çocukluk Dönemi İstismarı ve İhmaliyle İlişkisi

Abstract

Amaç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinde psikolojik sağlamlığı belirleyen faktörleri anlamak, hemşirelik iş gücünü güçlendirmek için önemlidir. Araştırmanın amacı, hemşire adaylarında psikolojik sağlamlığın D tipi kişilik özellikleri ile çocukluk çağı istismarı ve ihmaliyle ilişkisini incelemektir. Yöntem: Ocak 2019’da 158 hemşire adayıyla gerçekleştirilen kesitsel çalışmada Çocukluk Çağı Travma Anketi, Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği ve D Tip Kişilik Ölçeği kullanıldı. Veriler hiyerarşik ve lojistik regresyon analizleri ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Katılımcıların %51.3’ü kadın, yaş ortalaması 22.06±1.34’tür. Hiyerarşik Regresyon Analizine eklenen modellerde "çocukluk çağı istismarı ve ihmali (1), sosyal destek (2), sosyoekonomik durum (3) ve D Tip Kişilik (4)" özellikleri ile psikolojik sağlamlıktaki varyansın açıklayıcılığı %12.9'dan %44.3’e yükseldi. Psikolojik sağlamlıkta cinsiyet (β=-1.79, p=0.036), fiziksel ihmal (β=3.75, p=0.027) ve arkadaşlık ilişkileri memnuniyeti (β=0.04, p=0.011) önemli faktörler iken, fiziksel ihmal (β=3.27, p=0.021) ve D Tip Kişilik (β=-0.25, p<0.001) en güçlü yordayıcılardı. Lojistik Regresyon Analizleri sonuçları, D Tip Kişilik özellikleri taşıyan öğrencilerde fiziksel istismarın negatif duygulanım riskini 1.93 kat arttırdığını (OR=1.93, p=0.019), psikolojik sağlamlığın ise bu riski %28 azalttığını (OR=0.72, p=0.001) gösterdi. Sosyal içe dönüklük riskini duygusal ihmal 1.27 kat artırırken (OR=1.27, p=0.002), psikolojik sağlamlık bu riski %20 azalttı (OR=0.80, p=0.001). Sonuç: Çocukluk çağı istismarı ve ihmali düşük psikolojik sağlamlık ile ilişkili olup, D tipi kişilik en güçlü risk faktörüdür. Stres Aşılama Teorisi ile uyumlu olarak, bazı bireylerde fiziksel ihmal erken dönem başa çıkma becerilerini geliştirerek psikolojik sağlamlığı güçlendirebilir. Psikolojik sağlamlığın güçlendirilmesi, D tipi kişilik özellikleri taşıyan hemşire adaylarında erken dönem olumsuz yaşam deneyimlerinin etkisini azaltmaya yardımcı olabilir.

The Relationship of Psychological Resilience with Type D Personality Traits and Childhood Abuse and Neglect in Nursing Candidates

Abstract

Objective: Understanding the determinants of psychological resilience among nursing students is crucial for strengthening the nursing workforce. The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between psychological resilience, Type D Personality traits, and childhood abuse and neglect in nursing candidates. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 158 nursing candidates in January 2019. Data from the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Psychological Resilience Scale, and Type D Personality Scale were analyzed using Hierarchical and Logistic Regression Analysis. Results: Participants were 51.3% female, with a mean age of 22.06±1.34. In Hierarchical Regression Analysis, adding childhood abuse and neglect (1), social support (2), socioeconomic status (3), and Type D Personality (4) increased the explained variance in psychological resilience from 12.9% to 44.3%. Gender (β=-1.786, p=0.036), physical neglect (β=3.748, p=0.027), and friendship satisfaction (β=0.039, p=0.011) were key factors, while physical neglect (β=3.265, p=0.021) and Type D Personality (β=-0.246, p<0.001) were the strongest predictors. Logistic regression models showed that in students with Type D traits, physical abuse increased negative affectivity risk (OR=1.93, p=0.019), while resilience reduced it by 28% (OR=0.72, p=0.001). Emotional neglect raised social introversion risk (OR=1.27, p=0.002), whereas resilience lowered it by 20% (OR=0.80, p=0.001). Conclusions: Childhood abuse and neglect were linked to lower resilience, with Type D Personality as the strongest risk factor. Physical neglect may strengthen resilience by fostering early coping skills, aligning with Stress Inoculation Theory. Strengthening resilience may help mitigate early-life adversities in those with Type D traits among nursing candidates.
