Abstract

Objectives: The research was conducted in a descriptive and cross-sectional manner to determine the quality of life and affecting factors of outpatient chemotherapy patients.
Methods: The sample consisted of 314 patients who received treatment in the outpatient chemotherapy unit of a university hospital between May and July 2023. Data were collected by face-to-face interview method using the "Patient Information Form" and "World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale".
Results: The mean total score of the patients on the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale is 25.96±5.81. Female gender, unemployed, illiterate, diagnosed with gynecological cancer, not receiving additional treatment to chemotherapy, taste change after chemotherapy, nausea-vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, insomnia, weakness, pain, infection, and bleeding, analgesic. It was determined that the quality of life of patients using antidepressant medication was lower and the difference between the groups was significant (p <0.05). No significant relationship was found between the age at diagnosis of cancer, comorbid disease status, and the amount of daily fluid consumed, and the total score averages of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (p>0.05).
Conclusion: The quality of life of patients receiving chemotherapy is above average. There are several factors that affect patients' quality of life. These are gender, employment status, education level, cancer type, duration of chemotherapy, receiving additional treatment to chemotherapy, and symptoms experienced due to chemotherapy.

Ayaktan Kemoterapi Alan Hastaların Yaşam Kalitesi ve Etkileyen Faktörler: Tanımlayıcı ve Kesitsel Çalışma

Year 2024, Volume: 7 Issue: 3, 634 - 644
https://doi.org/10.38108/ouhcd.1376992
