Abstract

Year 2025, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 196 - 203, 05.04.2025
https://doi.org/10.38108/ouhcd.1401078

Abstract

Objective: The research aimed to determine the effect of professional identity development of newly graduated nurses on their individual entrepreneurship perceptions.
Methods: The population of the research consisted of 161 newly graduated nurses who were newly graduated from a University's Health School Nursing Department and wanted to participate in the research. The sample size is the entire universe. The data were collected using the Professional Self-Concept Scale for Nurses (HPCI), the Individual Entrepreneurship Perception Scale (BGAS), and a personal information form developed by the researchers in line with the literature.
Results: The mean age of the nurses was 22.71±1.52 and 81.4% were women. 58.4% of the nurses have chosen their profession willingly, 61.5% are satisfied with their profession, 81.4% have a career plan after graduation and 38.5% have attended entrepreneurship training. The nurses' general mean score of IEPS was 108.50±13.77, and the mean score of NPSCS was 121.91±18.06. A significant relationship above the medium level was found between IEPS general, professional competence and professional attitude and skill sub-dimension mean scores and NPSCS general and sub-dimension mean scores (p<0.05). It was determined that the occupational satisfaction and professional attitude and skills sub-dimension of IEPS, and the variables of choosing the profession willingly, professional satisfaction and career plan significantly predicted the mean scores of nurses (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Nurses' professional identity levels are at a good level and are significantly related to their individual entrepreneurship levels. Nurses who prefer the profession willingly, are satisfied with the profession and have a career plan, have a high level of individual entrepreneurship perception. It can be said that nurses' individual entrepreneurship is an important component of their professional identity characteristics. In this context, professional identity can be an important factor in orienting to individual entrepreneurial activities and innovating and promoting change in health services, and may enable the development of new strategies for improving the quality of nursing care.
