Abstract

Throughout history, countless wars have taken place for various reasons. However, some of these wars have provided the parties with gains far beyond victory and defeat and have almost determined a brand-new destiny. As a matter of fact, history has repeatedly witnessed the laying of the foundation of a political organisation that will last for centuries after a single victory, as well as the collapse of a political formation that has maintained its existence for hundreds of years. One of these landmark battles was the Battle of Talikota in 1565 between the Dekken Sultanate, the successor of the Behmenid State, and the Vijayanagar Empire, the archrival of the Behmenid State. In this study, in which this war, which made the ally a rival and the rival an ally, is discussed in detail by making use of Persian, Arabic, and English works, the Battle of Talikota, which is one of the events that shaped the political direction of South India, has not found the place it deserves in the sources.
