SOCIAL STUDIES PRESERVICE TEACHERS’ VIEWS ON NATURE OF SCIENCE AND REFLECTING NATURE OF SCIENCE ON LEARNING-TEACHING PROCESS

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the views of pre-service teachers on the nature of science, need of the nature of science in the classroom practices, and teaching nature of science at the undergraduate programmes. This research is a case study in which embedded “single case design” was used. This research was conducted eleven voluntary pre-service teachers who are third and fourth grade students at Pamukkale University, Faculty of Education, and Department of Social Studies Education. Participants had a point of views about nature of science, and gave examples to explain the effects of societies on science. In contrast, they had difficulties to define the concepts of nature of science.

SOSYAL BİLGİLER ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARININ BİLİMİN DOĞASINA VE ÖĞRENME-ÖĞRETME SÜRECİNE YANSITILMASINA İLİŞKİN GÖRÜŞLERİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı; sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının bilimin doğasına yönelik görüşlerini belirlemek, bilimin doğası ile ilgili konuların sınıf içi uygulamalardaki gerekliliğine ve bu konulara lisans derslerinde yer verilmesine ilişkin düşüncelerini açığa çıkarmaktır. Nitel bir durum çalışması olan araştırmada “iç içe geçmiş tek durum deseni” kullanılmıştır. Araştırma Pamukkale Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilgiler Eğitimi Anabilim Dalı’nda öğrenim gören ve araştırmaya gönüllü katılan üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinden toplam on bir öğrenciyle yürütülmüştür. Katılımcıların; bilimin ve bilimsel bilginin özelliklerini açıklayabildikleri, bilimin doğasına yönelik bir bakış açısına sahip oldukları, toplumun bilim üzerindeki etkilerini örneklendirebildikleri görülmektedir. Ancak bilimin doğasına ilişkin kavramları tanımlamada güçlük yaşadıkları görülmektedir.
