PAINTED PHRYGIAN POTTERY OF SEYITOMER HOYUK

Abstract

160 meters in diameter and 23.5 meters in height, the Seyitömer Höyük is a large mound 25 kms Northwest of the city of Kütahya. It is located within the bounds of a strip-mining company, the Seyitömer Lignite Works. Though the Phrygian pottery in-situ condition found in the room outside the fortification; inside the influence of 5th and 4th cencury B.C was observed. The architectural elements are almost completely destroyed because of leveling the top of Höyük. Because of this devastation, the mixed material found there was not regarded to any architectural style.The Phrygian pottery of Seyitömer Höyük consists of two groups as painted and monochrome. Paintedpottery formed as Trefoil Jugs and Dinos.Unfortunately the samples of pottery found in Seyitömer Höyük could not be regarded to any architectural theme and could not be given definite dates but once compared with Phrygian pottery, could not be denied that reflecting ). Century B.C Phrygian era till Persians.

SEYİTÖMER HÖYÜK BOYALI PHRYG KERAMİĞİ

Abstract

Seyitömer Höyük, 160 m çapında ve 23.5 m yükseklikte olup, Kütahya il merkezinin 25 km kuzeybatısında, Türkiye Kömür İşletmeleri Kurumu, Seyitömer Linyit İşletmeleri Müessese Müdürlüğü’ne bağlı kömür işletmesi alanında bulunmaktadır. Genellikle Pers Dönemi’ne tarihlendirilen sur dışında yer alan oda içlerinde in-situ durumda Phryg keramiği ele geçerken, sur içinde yoğun bir 5. ve 4.yy. etkisi gözlenmektedir. Bu dönemde höyüğün üst düzlemi, oldukça iyi tesviye edildiği için, mimari öğelerin neredeyse tamamı tahrip olmuş ve bu tahribatından dolayı sadece karışık olarak malzeme saptanmış ve bir bütün mimari ile bağdaştırılamamıştır.Seyitömer Höyük Phryg Keramiği boyalı ve yalın olmak üzere iki ana grup oluşturur. Boyalı keramik formlarını yonca ağızlı testiler ve dinos oluşturur.Seyitömer Höyük’te ele geçen çoğu keramik örneği ne yazık ki bir mimari öğeyle birleştirilemediğinden her ne kadar net ve kesin tarihler atanamasa da; form özellikleri, yüzey işlemleri, boyama stilleri gibi unsurlar göz önünde bulundurularak, diğer Phryg yerleşimlerindeki keramik ile karşılaştırıldığında, M.Ö. 9. yy’dan itibaren Pers dönemine kadar Phryg Dönemi’ni yansıttığı yadsınamaz bir gerçektir.
