REFLECTION OF “COAL MINE ACCIDENT IN ERMENEK” ON PRINTED MEDIA

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show how the coal mine accident occurred in Ermenek on 28 October 2014 was presented in the media in order to reveal the ideological dimension in the news. To caary out the study, the front pages of the newspapers Cumhuriyet, Zaman and Yeni Şafak were scanned from the internet and included in the samples. The attitudes of these newspapers against the political power and opposition in have been taken into consideration in the inclusion of these papers in this study. The method of critical discourse analysis has been used in this study and Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis model has been utilised. As a result of the analyses on the news, it has been found out that the newspaper representing different political lines with different ideological atmospheres reproduce the news from their own perspectives, present the stories in the way they want their readers to perceive them in accordance with the ownership of the newspapers. Therefore,it has been concluded that it is impossible to talk about an unbiased media and the public communication tools have an important role in manipulating the minds.

ERMENEK MADEN KAZASI’NIN YAZILI BASINDA YANSIMALARI

Abstract

Çalışmanın amacı; 28 Ekim 2014 tarihinde Ermenek’te meydana gelen maden kazasının, haberdeki ideolojik boyutunu ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla, medyada nasıl sunulduğunu göstermektir. Çalışmanın yapılabilmesi için; Cumhuriyet, Zaman ve Yeni Şafak gazetelerinin, 29–31 Ekim tarihleri arasında yer alan ilk sayfa haberleri internetten taranarak örneklem içerisinde incelenmiştir. Bu gazetelerin örneklem içerisine alınmasında, gazetelerin siyasal iktidar ve muhalefete karşı tavırları göz önünde bulundurulmuştur. Çalışmada, eleştirel söylem çözümlemesi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu yöntemle metin içinde egemen söylemlerin nasıl kurulduğu gösterilmeye çalışılmış ve Van Dijk’ın eleştirel söylem çözümlemesi modelinden yararlanılmıştır. Farklı siyasal çizgileri temsil eden, farklı ideolojik atmosferlere sahip gazetelerin haberleri üzerinde yapılan çözümleme sonucunda, gazetelerin sahiplik yapılarına göre; haberlerin tümünde okuyucuya belirli bir çerçeve sundukları, okuyucuları tarafından nasıl algılanmak istiyorlarsa o yönlü bir dil kullandıkları ve gazetelerin aynı haberi kendi ideolojik bakış açılarından geçirerek yeniden ürettikleri gerçeği tespit edilmiştir. Dolayısıyla tarafsız bir medyadan bahsedilemeyeceği ve kitle iletişim araçlarının zihinleri yönlendirmedeki rolünün önemi ortaya çıkarılmıştır.
