KUTADGU BILIG IN KIRGHIZ TURKISH: KUTTUU BILIM
Abstract
The Kutadgu Bilig on which many studies have been conducted (and will be conducted) is one of the first works of Islamic Turkish literature and one of the most voluminous works of Turkish literature with 6645 couplets. The Kutadgu Bilig that means "Divine Knowledge" is a book of government written in verse as well as “the wisdom which brings happiness” the world and his wife can utilize. Both in the Western and Eastern world and in the Turkish world, a great number of studies have been conducted on the Kutadgu Bilig that is of profound importance in many aspects. Towards the end of 20th century, studies on the Kutadgu Bilig have increased in other Turkish communities. The source of the present study is the transfer of the Kutadgu Bilig by Tölögön Kozubekov into Kirghiz Turkish. The present study aims both to introduce Kuttuu Bilim, which is the Kirghiz Turkish transfer of the Kutadgu Bilig produced in the early 1990s by Tölögön Kozubekov, and to reveal its importance for the history of Turkish language. The study is based on the second edition of “Kuttuu Bilim”(1993). The present study has demonstrated that translations of the Kutadgu Bilig rendered in verse, just as is the original, are needed in all the Turkish dialects.
