Problems Faced With Foreign Students In Primary Schools

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the problems which teachers and administrators face with at schools where foreign students enroll in, and to offer solutions and recommendations for these problems. As a qualitative research design, phenemonology is chosen for the study. The data was collected through interviews with teachers and administrators at schools in Denizli where foreign students are attending. Maximum sampling was used for the selection of the participants. Analyses figured out four themes named family characteristics of foreign students, problems faced, solutions of the problems faced and suggestions. Under the theme of family characteristics, the data was categorized as the reasons why they are in Turkey, family structure, financial situation, the condition of being interested in child’s education and the reasons of immigration. As for the problems which teachers and administrators face with, the data was categorized as the language problems, the problems in the collaboration between Ministry of National Education and the school, the problems in the collaboration between the school and the family, and the problems in the process of instruction. In terms of the third and the fourth themes of the study, the solutions which the teachers and the administrators offer for the problems mentioned above have been discussed.

İlkokullarda Yabancı Uyruklu Öğrencilerle Karşılaşılan Sorunlar

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, okullarında yabancı uyruklu öğrenci bulunan öğretmen ve yöneticilerin karşılaştıkları sorunları, sorunlara bulunan çözümler ve sorunlara yönelik çözüm önerilerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma deseni olan fenomenoloji (Olgu bilim) deseninden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri Denizli’de yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin bulunduğu okullardaki öğretmen ve yöneticilerle görüşmeler yapılarak elde edilmiştir. Çalışma grubunun seçiminde maksimum çeşitlilik kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin aile özellikleri, karşılaşılan sorunlar, sorunlara yönelik bulunan çözümler ve öneriler teması olmak üzere dört tema elde edilmiştir. Aile özelliklerinde Türkiye’de bulunma sebepleri, aile yapısı, maddi durum, çocuğun eğitimiyle ilgilenme durumu, göç nedenleri gibi verilere ulaşılmıştır. Öğretmen ve yöneticilerin karşılaştıkları sorunlar; dil sorunu, davranış sorunu, Milli Eğitim-okul işbirliği sorunları, okul- aile işbirliği sorunları ve öğretim sürecinde yaşanan sorunlar olarak beş alt tema altında toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın üçüncü ve dördüncü temasında da öğretmen ve yöneticilerin yukarıda belirtilen sorunlara yönelik buldukları çözümler ve sorunlara yönelik çözüm önerileri tartışılmıştır.
