Painting Criticism In The Press During The Transition From Ottoman To Republic
Abstract
It is possible to initiate a new era of Turkish initiating with the Galatasaray Painting Exhibitions started opening from 1916. Canvases filled with the vivid, dynamic and bright colors of impressionism starts to take place of the static academic style nature and architecture compositions in which very few figures were used. Of course this stylistic change is directly related to the artists who have returned from Europe with their education on impressionist style. Including the excitement and technique strength of these young painters, they have gained more superior characteristics compared to their predecessors. In 1923 Ankara Painting Exhibitions are included to the Galatasaray Exhibtions, which have started to open annually from 1916 and turned into a tradition within the continuity of it. Thus recognition and expanding of modern Turkish painting gained acceleration with the increasing of the annually held national exhibitions. As a natural result of this formation an increasing number of news and articles on these paintings, painters and exhibitions appears on the pages of periodical publications. In this sense, the criticism on these Galatasaray, Independent Painting Atelier (Serbest Resim Atölyesi), Young Painters and Ankara Painting Exhibitions, which were held during the transition of Ottoman to the Republic in 1920-1928, will be studied.

Abstract
1916 yılından itibaren sürekli açılmaya başlayan Galatasaray Resim Sergileri ile Türk resim sanatının yeni bir evresini başlatmak mümkündür. Akademik tarzda, durağan, az sayıda figürün kullanıldığı doğa ve mimari kompozisyonların yerini; empresyonizmin canlı, hareketli ve ışıltılı renkleri ile doldurulmuş tuvaller almaya başlar. Elbette bu üslup değişikliğinin temelinde yatan Avrupa’dan yeni dönmüş sanatçı kitlesinin empresyonist tarzda eğitim alması ile doğrudan ilintilidir. Bu bağlantıya genç ressamların heyecanı ve teknik kuvveti de eklenince seleflerine göre daha baskın kimliklere dönüşürler. Süreklilik bağlamında 1916 yılından itibaren her yıl açılarak gelenekselleşmeye başlayan Galatasaray Sergilerine, 1923’te Ankara Resim Sergileri eklenir. Böylece yıl içinde gerçekleştirilen ulusal sergi sayısı artarak, çağdaş Türk resminin tanınması ve yayılması ivme kazanır. Bu oluşumun doğal bir uzantısı olarak resim, ressam ve sergilere dair artan sayıda haber ve makale, süreli yayınların sayfalarında karşımıza çıkar. Bu bağlamda, 1920-1928 yılları arası zaman diliminde kalan ve Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyet’e geçiş sürecinde gerçekleştirilen Galatasaray, Serbest Resim Atölyesi, Genç Ressamlar Sergisi ve Ankara Resim sergilerine getirilen eleştiriler makale kapsamında irdelenecektir.
