Akut romatizmal ateş ARA , grup A beta hemolitik streptokokal GAS farenjit sonrası ortaya çıkan sistemik bir hastalıktır. ARA, kalp ve kalp kapakcıkları üzerinde kronik ilerleyici hasara neden olabilir. Akut romatizmal ateş, 1960’lara kadar çocukluk çağı ölümlerinin ve yapısal kalp hastalıklarının başlıca nedeni olarak gösterilmekteydi.
