OECD Ülkelerinde Ekonomik Büyüme ve Demokrasi İlişkisi: Dinamik Panel Veri Analizi

Abstract

Ülkeler için ekonomik büyüme kavramı hayati bir öneme sahiptir. Bir ülkenin ekonomik yapısı o ülkenin gelişmişliğiyle ilgili bilgi edinilmesini sağlamaktadır. Ülkelerin gelişmişlik seviyeleri belirlenirken ekonomik yapının haricinde çeşitli sosyo-kültürel, coğrafi ve demografik etmenlerde araştırılır. Ekonomik büyüme ve demokrasi kavramları da ülkelerin gelişmişlik seviyesini etkileyen unsurlardır. Demokratik bir şekilde oluşturulan etkili kurumsal yapı, politik haklar, sivil ve ekonomik serbestlikler ekonomik büyümenin sağlanmasında önem arz etmektedir. Ekonomik büyümenin hız kazanması sonucunda demokrasinin etkili bir rolü olduğu gibi, demokrasi seviyesinin artmasında ekonomik büyümenin de ayrı bir önemi bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, ekonomik büyümenin demokrasi üzerindeki etkilerini OECD üyesi ülkeler için dinamik panel veri analizi yöntemiyle incelemektir. Çalışma kapsamında OECD üyesi ülkeler ele alınarak 2006-2020 dönemleri için dinamik panel veri analizi yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Analiz kapsamında, Genelleştirilmiş Momentler Metodu (GMM), GMM robust(dirençli hata) ve sistem GMM robust (dirençli hata) tekniklerinden yararlanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda, ekonomik büyüme, dış ticaret ve finansal gelişmenin demokrasi üzerinde istatistiksel olarak pozitif etki yarattığına ulaşılmıştır.

The Relationship Between Growth and Democracy in OECD Countries: Dynamic Economic Panel Data Analysis

Abstract

The concept of economic growth has a vital structure for countries. The economic structure of a country provides information about the development of that country. While determining the development boundaries of the countries, various socio-cultural, geographical and demographic factors are investigated apart from the economic lands. The concepts of economic growth and democracy are also elements of the level of development of countries. Effective institutional structure, political rights, civil and economic freedoms that shape democratically are important in ensuring economic growth. Acceleration of economic growth has an effective role in democracy, as well as economic growth in democracy has a special importance. This purpose of use is to examine the effects of economic growth on democracy for OECD member countries by using dynamic panel data analysis method. Within the scope of the study, dynamic panel data analysis method was applied for the 2006-2020 periods of OECD member countries. Within the scope of the analysis, Generalized Method of Moments (GMM), GMM sound (resistive fault) and system GMM sound (resistive fault) techniques were used. As a result of the analysis, it has been reached that economic growth, foreign trade and financial development have a positive effect on democracy.
