Alfred Marshall's Human Capitalism: Freedom of Industry and Enterprise

Abstract

In this work, the perspective of Alfred Marshall who is one of the prominent representatives of the neo-classical economics on capitalism that is the Freedom of Industry and Enterprise or Economic Freedom system with his own words together with the points which the author emphasizes and discusses to make the capitalist system more humanist, with a critical approach. In this context, the paper will consider the thoughts of Marshall on political economy and the economics in relation with the economic freedom emerging after the industrial revolution in Britain, and his perspective on the socialist system and etatism which he pots at the opposite side of the economic freedom. With reference to these points, the approach of Marshall to the poverty and the inequalities in general in the society during this period, the characters of the members of the society and particularly the entrepreneurs, and the implications he made over the nature of the human beings in the frame will be considered. In this context, the grounds and the criteria for the assessment to be claimed for the possibility of a more humanitarian capitalist system that is the economic freedom system with his own words will be examined.

Marshall’ın İnsani Kapitalizmi: Endüstri Ve Girişim Özgürlüğü

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Neoklasik iktisadın önemli temsilcilerinden biri olan Alfred Marshall’ın kapitalizme bakış açısı bağlamında yazarın kendi ifadesiyle “endüstri ve girişim özgürlüğü veya ekonomik özgürlük” sistemi ele alınmış yazarın kapitalist sistemi daha insani hale getirmek üzere önerdiği hususlar ve tartışmaya açtığı konular el eştirel bir bakış açısıyla ele alınmıştır. Bu bağlamda, çalışmada, Marshall’ın, İngiltere’de yaşanan sanayi devrimi sonrasında ortaya çıkan ekonomik özgürlük düzeniyle bağlantılı olarak ekonomi politik ve ekonomi üzerine düşünceleri, ekonomik özgürlüğün karşısına konumlandırdığı, sosyalist sistem ile devletçi sisteme bakış açısı ele alınacaktır. Bu konularla bağlantılı olarak ayrıca, Marshall’ın bu dönemde toplumda mevcut olan yoksulluk ile genel olarak eşitsizliklere yaklaşımı, toplumda yaşayan bireylerin ve özellikle girişimcilerin karakterleri, insan doğası üzerinden yapmış olduğu çıkarımlar ve değerlendirmeler incelenecektir. Bu bağlamda çalışmada Marshall’ın daha insani bir kapitalist sistemin, yazarın kendi ifadesiyle ekonomik özgürlük sisteminin mümkü n olduğu yönünde ileri sürdüğü gerekçeler ve değerlendirmede esas aldığı kriterler incelenecektir.
