Help Seeking Behaviors in Chronic Mental Diseases
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the studies conducted with the chronic psychiatric patients help seeking behavior in Turkey and determine the characteristics and reveal the current situation in this area. In order to determine the recent studies conducted with chronic psychiatric patients help seeking behavior in Turkey, national databases were reviewed. Fourteen studies related about chronic psychiatric patients help seeking behavior studies were reviewed. According to the findings, the patients and their relatives often appeared to refer to traditional religious methods. Being female, having low level of education and living in rural areas are important prevalent factors among patients having traditional help-seeking behavior.
