It is known that terrorism has many social, economic, political and psychological destructive effects on countries. From a financial point of view, terrorism creates an uncertainty effect on the markets. Uncertainty, on the other hand, leads to an increase in existing risks and changes in the behavior of investors. In this study, it is aimed to investigate how the uncertainties caused by terrorist incidents have an effect on financial development. In this context, the social, political and economically prominent countries of the Middle East and Turkey were chosen as the research sample. The relationship between the number of deaths caused by terrorism and the private loans used to represent financial development in the countries included in the study sample was examined through panel data analysis for 12 countries and the period 2005-2017. Westerlund and Edgerton panel cointegration test (2007) and Canning and Pedroni panel causality test (2008) were used to determine whether terrorist incidents have an impact on financial development by working with annual data. According to the results, no relationship was found between the financial development of the selected countries and the number of deaths due to terrorism. These findings reveal that terrorist incidents do not have a serious effect on the financial structures of the countries examined and that these countries are likely to have a strong financial structure as their financial structures are not affected by terrorist incidents.
