Abstract

The foundations of attachment theory were first established by John Bowbly. Following Bowbly, Ainsworth (1978), Hazan and Shaver (1987) also contributed to studies on attachment. Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) took attachment theory a step further by applying it to adulthood and conducted a number of researches on adult attachment theory. Adult attachment theory describes how the developing relationship between mother and baby can be applied to all aspects of life. However, attachment theory was first introduced into the business life by Hazan and Shaver (1990). Hazan and Shaver emphasized the influences of attachment styles on business life and revealed the differences in business life of individuals who experience secure and insecure attachment. In this research, it was aimed to evaluate the adult attachment style with regard to an organizational perspective and the general framework of the adult attachment style, which has recently attracted attention in the field of organizational behaviour, has been drawn. Systematic literature review method was used in the study. In addition, findings related to the literature on adult attachment are presented. This paper also reveals the relationship between adult attachment styles of employees and issues such as job satisfaction, satisfaction level, intention to quit, job burnout, organizational commitment. Finally, it was explicitly dealt with that the managers can be effective on employees by using adult attachment styles.
