This study was
performed to determine the effects
of impregnation with Tanalith-E on compression strengths of Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky), European oak (Quercus petraea Liebl.), Black walnut (Junglans
nigra Lipsky), Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra Lipsky), Ash (Fraxinus exelsior Lipsky) and Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris Lipsky) woods. For this aim, the wood samples were
prepared according to TS 345 and impregnated with Tanalith-E by the method of
the vacuum according to ASTM D 1413 and producers’ definition. After
impregnation process, compression
strength was measured according to TS 2595. Consequently, compression
strengths of wood un-impregnated were found higher (approximately 6.63%) than
impregnated with Tanalith-E wood materials. Accordingly, the highest values of
compression strengths were obtained in impregnated Oriental beech and ash
woods, whereas the lowest values were obtained in the Lombardy poplar wood.
