By 1930s, infrastructure of the iron and steel
industry in Turkey has been shaped. KARDEMIR was establish in 1937 to meet the
demand for iron and steel flat demands. Particularly after 2001, the steel
sector gained a rapid growth. With the increasing investments on flat and
structural steel production facilities, various courses of businesses have
emerged. One of them is processes of cold rolling mill erection which involves
a relatively complex process. The process management is carried out in three
main sections such as mechanical, piping and electrical works. Therefore, it is
important to ensure effective communication and coordination between these
departments. Proper planning of this process and efficient organization of
systems may increase project efficiency. In this paper, examination of two
similar cold rolling mill complex erection is compared over the project
planning process. Initially, the encountered problems and the possible causes
of these problems were identified by comparing the project details, and the
most appropriate total assembly time was determined by using one of the project
management techniques, in this case, the PERT Analysis. Then, erection
progresses of the production lines were compared in terms of actual times and
the number of employees.
