Abstract
In this study, the alloying properties of the Fe-Cu system, which cannot be dissolved in each other in solid and liquid state, were investigated by mechanical alloying. For this purpose, Fe-Cu powders of 90 %Fe-10 %Cu and 80 %Fe-20 %Cu with an average size of 45 microns were alloyed with steel balls in a mechanical alloying device for 3 hours. It was then pressed with 500 MPa in a mold of 15x15 dimensions and sintered at 800o C for 45 minutes in a microwave sintering oven. It was then sintered and green densities were measured. The alloying properties of the sintered samples were determined by performing metallographic examinations under optical and SEM microscopes. In addition, by measuring the Brinell hardness values, the effects of alloy ratios on hardness properties were determined. In this study, it is aimed to mechanically alloy Fe-Cu systems that are not mixed together and therefore not alloyed by traditional methods and to examine the alloying capabilities by looking at microstructure, hardness and density values over two different chemical ratios.
