The Effect of the Digital Technology-Supported Mathematics Education Program on Preschool Children’s Geometry and Spatial Perception

Abstract

In this study, the effect of a digital technology-supported mathematics education program on preschool children’s geometry and spatial perception skills was examined. The research was conducted with 35 six-year-old children attending an independent kindergarten in Konya province. As a data collection tool, the Geometry and Spatial Perception Test (GUZAL-T) was used; the test was administered in the form of a pre-test, post-test, and retention test. While the children in the experimental group participated in the digital technology-supported mathematics education program for 10 weeks, the children in the control group followed the preschool education curriculum of the Ministry of National Education. According to the research findings, it was determined that the mean scores obtained by the experimental group in the post-test were significantly higher compared to those of the control group. This increase observed in the experimental group is considered to have resulted from the digital technology-supported mathematics education program implemented in addition to the existing preschool curriculum. Consequently, it was concluded that the program was effective in enhancing preschool children’s geometry and spatial perception skills.
