Nurse Instructors' Opinions on the Measurement and Evaluation Process; A Qualitative Study

Abstract

Introduction: The quality of measurement and evaluation activities in the teaching process is largely related to the instructor's competence in this area. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to reveal the views of nursing instructors on the measurement and evaluation process. Method: The research was designed using a qualitative research design. The study was conducted with 23 nurse instructors who agreed to participate. A semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection tool. Content analysis was used for data analysis. Findings: Six main themes and 17 sub-themes were determined to define the nursing faculty's measurement and evaluation during the learning process, the difficulties encountered during the measurement and evaluation process, the most frequently used measurement tools for objectively evaluating students, the most frequently used methods for evaluating students' performance, the difficulties encountered during the performance evaluation process, and the solution suggestions for the difficulties encountered during the measurement and evaluation process. Conclusion: It can be said that improving the quality of measurement and evaluation processes in higher education is an important necessity in terms of both balancing the workload of instructor and monitoring and evaluating student learning more reliably.
