İki Boyutlu Beden İmgesi Ölçeği’nin Genel Örnekleme Uyarlanması, Psikometrik Özelliklerinin Madde Cevap Kuramı ile İncelenmesi ve Cinsiyet Farklılıklarının Karşılaştırılması

Year 2017, Volume: 5 Issue: 4, 21 - 40, 01.01.2017

Abstract

Adaptation of Two Dimensional Body Image Scale for General Sample, Investigation of Its Psychometric Properties by Item Response Theory, and Comparison of Gender Differences

Year 2017, Volume: 5 Issue: 4, 21 - 40, 01.01.2017

Abstract

It has been reported that body image is described as "the picture of body in our mind" and referred to as multilateral psychological experiences of physical appearance. The aim of this study was to adapt a body image scale for general samples in line with above mentioned specifications by using the applications of previous Body Image Appraisal Scale developed for sportsman by Tatar and Zekioğlu 2006 as a preliminary study. 905 women 61.2% , 567 men 38.3% 7 haven’t mentioned gender-0.5% , ages between 15-82 average is 27.75+11.38 years a total of 1479 subjects participated in the study. In this study using itemresponse theory number of items has been reduced to 63. The scale has been determined as having two dimensions by factor analysis and the dimensions have been called Functions and Appearance. Internal consistency coefficient of the whole scale was 0.93, and internal consistency coefficients of Functions and Appearance dimensions were 0.83 and 0.92 respectively. Gender groups have been compared to determine the differences between groups by multi variable variance analysis MANOVA and effect of gender on the items of the scale has been found statistically significant. Findings showed that psychometric properties of Two Dimensional Body Image Scale were acceptable
