"Turks Are Often Fair-Haired": Initials and Initiations in the Bay of Sudak

Abstract

The article discusses Velimir Khlebnikov's time in Sudak in the summer of 1908. This period was a pivotal moment in the poet's creative journey, leading him to the "tower" of the Symbolist leader Vyacheslav Ivanov. However, this refuge also proved to be inconclusive. This text largely responds to the article by the renowned Khlebnikov scholar Alexander Parnis, 'Khlebnikov: Meetings in Sudak in 1908: Acquaintance with Vyacheslav Ivanov, the Beginning of a Dialogue' (Novy Mir, 2023, no. 1). The author argues that Khlebnikov's experience in Crimea was fruitful in many ways and not solely confined to his apprenticeship with Ivanov, who was staying with the Gertsyk sisters at the time.

Abstract

Тема статьи – пребывание Велимира Хлебникова в Судаке летом 1908 года, ставшее переломным этапом в творческой биографии поэта по пути его движения к «башне» символистского вождя Вячеслава Иванова, оказавшейся, впрочем, столь же «неокончательным» убежищем. В значительной мере этот текст является реакцией на статью известного хлебниковеда Александра Парниса «Хлебников: встречи в Судаке в 1908 году (Знакомство с Вяч. Ивановым. Начало диалога)» (Новый мир. 2023, № 1). Автор настаивает, что плодотворный во всех отношениях крымский опыт Хлебникова все же не сводился только к ученичеству у Иванова, гостившего в это время у сестер Герцык.

Abstract

Makalenin konusu, Velimir Khlebnikov'un 1908 yazında Sudak'ta geçirdiği ve şairin yaratıcı biyografisinde Sembolist lider Vyacheslav Ivanov'un “kulesine” giden yolda bir dönüm noktası haline gelen, ancak aynı derecede “sonuçsuz” bir sığınak olduğu ortaya çıkan dönemdir. Bu metin büyük ölçüde, ünlü Khlebnikovolog Alexander Parnis'in “Khlebnikov: 1908'de Sudak'ta Buluşmalar (Vyacheslav Ivanov ile Tanışma. Diyaloğun Başlangıcı)” (Novy Mir. 2023, No. 1) başlıklı makalesine bir tepkidir. Yazar, Khlebnikov'un her bakımdan verimli Kırım.
