Abstract

Tefsir çalışmalarında anlam ve yorumlama oldukça önemli olup klasik dönem için tefsir-te’vîl kavramlarıyla irtibatlandırılmaktadır. Bu eserinde Altay, anlam ve yorum düzleminde Zemahşerî’nin Keşşâf’ı bağlamında hermenötik yöntemi dikkate almıştır. Yazar, çalışmasında “müfesirler niçin böyle söylemiş?” sorusuna cevap aramıştır. Zemahşerî’nin yaşadığı asra giderek dönemin temel yapısını ortaya koymayı amaçlamıştır. Bu çerçevede yazar, Keşşâf’ı bireysel-sosyokültürel bağlam ve ilmi bağlam şeklinde iki başlık altında değerlendirmiştir. Tefsirlerin yazılış gayesinin vahyin gerçekliğini ortaya koymak olduğunu ifade eden Altay; dili, bilgiyi ve buna dayalı olarak yapılan yorumları müfessirlerin öznelliği içerisinde değerlendirmiştir. Dolayısıyla kitabın temel tezi, müfessir ve eserini tarihi içerisinde okuma gereğidir. Bu çalışma Keşşâf’ı hermenötik bir yaklaşımla değerlendirmesi açısından dikkate değer olup, sonraki tefsir tarihine dair çalışmalara yöntem olarak katkı sağlayabilecek özelliktedir.

Interpretation and Subjectivity in Tafsir, by Seyma Altay (Ankara: Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı Yayınları, 2022)

Abstract

In the field of tafsir studies, meaning and interpretation are of great importance and are often associated with the concepts of tafsir and ta'wil in the classical period. In this work, Altay considers the hermeneutic method in the context of Al-Zamakhshari's Al-Kashshaf, focusing on the dimensions of meaning and interpretation. Altay, employing the hermeneutic method, wrote his book specifically focusing on Zemahşerî's commentary. In his work, he sought to answer the question "Why did the commentators express themselves in this way?" He aimed to uncover the fundamental structure of the era in which Zemahşerî lived. In this context, he evaluated the Kashshaf under two main headings: individual sociocultural context and scientific context. The author, asserting that the purpose of commentaries is to reveal the truth of revelation, examined language, knowledge, and the interpretations made based on them within the subjectivity of commentators. Thus, the fundamental thesis of the book is the necessity of reading the commentator and his work within its historical context. This study is noteworthy for its hermeneutic approach to evaluating the Kashshaf and could contribute as a methodological asset to future research in the history of Tafsir.
