Our Envision of Civilization: The Meaning That Gives Life to Matter
Abstract
Civilization has a sense of meaning that expresses the
accumulation of humanity. In this sense, throughout history, different
civilizations which have been founded and institutionalized and developed by
different societies have come to life. In this context, in the history of
humanity, three kinds of civilization can be mentioned in the world in the most
general sense. The first is substance centered; second, meaning first; the
third is based on a combination of matter and meaning, in other words, a
concept that gives meaning and form to the material. This study aims to briefly
consider and evaluate ideas of civilization mentioned above in the theoretical
framework. In this context, the concept of materialistic civilization and the
concept of meaningful preferential civilization cannot reach humanity; on the
other hand, the one which is emphasized is the significance of the conception
of preferential civilization in the sense that it gives meaning to the material
and uses it for the benefit of mankind. Considering this idea, we are trying to
give meaning and importance to the conception of Islamic civilization.
