Airport Management and Human-Technology Interaction: An Analysis within the Framework of Conjoined Agency Typology

Abstract

This study examines the interaction of humans and technology in the management of airports from the perspective of the conjoined agency typology. Accordingly, it aims to reveal how the interaction between humans and technology relates to airport management practices in airports. This study indicates that what kind of division of labor has been between the human and technology in performing the practices those are based on safety and health. This division of labor between the human and technology has been searched based on the development of the process of practice and implementing the practice. In this context, one airport and one airline in Turkiye were included as samples, and research findings were obtained using a qualitative research method. The research findings indicate that the human factor is still important in shaping and developing practices in airports, and that full automation has not yet been established. In conclusion, it was observed that in airports, assisting augmenting, and arresting technology types are used, while automating technology has not yet been fully implemented.

Havalimanı İşletmeciliği ve İnsan-Teknoloji Etkileşimi: Yapışık Eyleyenler Tipolojisi Bağlamında Bir Analiz

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, havalimanı işletmeciliğindeki uygulamalar ile insan ve teknoloji arasında nasıl bir etkileşim olduğu yapışık eyleyenler tipolojisi çerçevesinden incelenmektedir. Bu doğrultuda havalimanlarında insan ve teknoloji etkileşimin havalimanı işletmeciliğindeki uygulamalarla nasıl bir ilişkiye sahip olduğu ortaya konulmak istenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, havalimanlarının yönetiminde ‘güvenlik ve sağlık’ esas olan ve teknolojiden yararlanılan pratiklere dair süreçlerin geliştirilmesinde ve bu pratiklere nihai olarak karar verilmesinde insan ve teknoloji arasında nasıl bir görev dağılımı olduğu gösterilmektedir. Bu minvalde Türkiye bağlamında bir havalimanı ve bir hava yolu örnekleme dahil edilmiştir ve nitel araştırma yöntemi takip edilerek araştırma bulgularına ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları havalimanlarındaki uygulamaların şekillenmesinde ve gelişmesinde insan faktörünün hâlâ önemli olduğuna, tam bir otomasyonun henüz yerleşmediğine işaret etmektedir. Sonuç olarak, havalimanlarında tutuklu, yardımcı teknoloji ve geliştirici teknoloji türlerinin kullanıldığı, otomasyon teknolojisinin ise henüz alana yerleşmediği görülmüştür.
