Compilation of Studies on the Role and Scope About Silver Diamine Fluoride in the Treatment of Early Childhood Caries

Year 2025, Volume: 15 Issue: 1, 136 - 142, 03.01.2025

Abstract

Dental caries is one of the most prevalent public health issues worldwide. One of the most prevalent types commonly observed in children, Early Childhood Caries (ECC), is among the most frequent chronic diseases during this period. It not only adversely affects children's oral health but also has a negative impact on their overall health, nutrition, growth and development, quality of life, and social well-being. Over the years, various plans have been devised, and new materials have been developed for the management and treatment of dental caries. To enhance the effectiveness of fluoride-containing agents, commonly used to arrest dental caries, silver has been incorporated, leading to the development of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) solutions. Its application is an easy, simple, and non-invasive solution. Studies have demonstrated its antibacterial and remineralizing effects on carious tissues, effectively halting the progression of caries. However, notable disadvantage is its potential to cause discoloration, turning dental tissues black. Further research is needed to determine the optimal concentration and application protocol for achieving better results. The aim of this review is to compile studies related to the scope of effectiveness of SDF-containing solutions, which are increasingly used in the treatment of ECC.

Erken Çocukluk Çağı Çürüklerinin Tedavisinde Gümüş Diamin Florürün Yeri ve Etki Alanlarıyla İlgili Yapılan Çalışmaların Derlenmesi

Year 2025, Volume: 15 Issue: 1, 136 - 142, 03.01.2025
