Introduction and Objective: This research aimed to examine the impact of handgun carriage on chronic low
back pain and sleep quality in individuals who carry a handgun, hypothesizing that carrying a handgun could lead
to pain. The objective was to analyze the effects of handgun carriage on low back pain and sleep quality in this
group. Materials and Methods: The study involved 595 participants aged 21-40 in Istanbul, utilizing face-toface
and online surveys. Participants completed a demographic form, Revised Oswestry Low Back Pain Scale,
Numeric Pain Scale, and Jenkins Sleep Scale. Results and Conclusion: The findings revealed no significant link
between the duration and location of handgun carriage and the participants’ low back pain and sleep quality
scores (p>0.05). However, a significant association was observed between daily handgun carriage time, handgun
carrying style, and low back pain and sleep quality scores (p<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis indicated a
negative correlation between low back pain and sleep quality. The impact of handgun carriage on chronic low back
pain and sleep quality varies depending on several factors. Our study’s results suggest a negative relationship
between chronic low back pain and sleep quality .
