Abstract

Introduction: The risk of cross-infection for the patient is increasing, with increasing number of appointments in field of prosthetic dentistry and involvement of dental laboratories in process. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and practices of dental assistants on sterilization and disinfection in field of prosthetic dental treatment. Material and Methods: The research was carried out by conducting a questionnaire on 100 people working as assistant dentists in Karabuk Oral and Dental Health Training and Research Hospital. The obtained data were statistically analyzed at 95% confidence interval (p<0.05) by using descriptive statistics, chi-square test and post-hoc tests with SPSS-version 22.0 software in Windows program. Results: When sterilization awareness of research group and their knowledge of sterilization methods were evaluated, 40% of assistant personnel stated that they knew concept of "sterilization" very well and 17% stated that they knew it at a moderate level. Likewise, when awareness of disinfection and knowing the disinfection methods of research group were evaluated, 44% of assistant personnel stated that they knew the concept of "disinfection" very well and 17% stated that they knew it at a moderate level. Those with working experience of 7 years or more said that more physicians should do the disinfection of the measurements (p=0.024). Conclusion and Suggestions: Although dental assistants have sufficient theoretical knowledge about sterilization and disinfection, they may not pay enough attention to this issue because of patient density, time constraints and difficulties in accessing different methods.

Diş Hekimliğinde Yardımcı Personelin Sterilizasyon ve Dezenfeksiyon Konusundaki Farkındalığı

Year 2022, Volume: 7 Issue: 2, 207 - 222, 01.08.2022
https://doi.org/10.25279/sak.956910
