Ulusal ve Uluslararası Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Sosyal Ağ Kullanımı ile Yalnızlık Düzeyi Arasındaki ilişki

Abstract

Giriş: Teknoloji ve iletişim çağı olarak adlandırılan bu döneminde; sosyal ağ siteleri, bilgisayar, internet kullanımı ve cep telefonu üniversite öğrencilerinin hayatının vazgeçilmez parçasıdır. Üniversite öğrencileri bu ağ sitelerini çoğunlukla yalnızlık duygusunun azaltılması amacıyla kullanmaktadır. Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, ulusal ve uluslararası üniversite öğrencilerinin sosyal ağ kullanımı ile yalnızlık düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma, sağlık alanında bölümlerde öğrenim gören 218 ulusal, 134 uluslararası üniversite öğrencisi ile yürütüldü. Araştırmanın verileri “Sosyodemografik Form”, “Sosyal Ağ Sitelerini Kullanım Amaçları Ölçeği” ve “UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği” kullanılarak toplandı. Bulgular: Katıtımcıların %59'u ulusal, %41'i uluslararası üniversite öğrencisidir. Katılımcıların %53.4'ü interneti günde 1 ile 3 saat arası kullandığı belirlendi. Ulusal ve uluslararası üniversite öğrencilerinin UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği toplam puanları ve AUSNS’nin sosyal etkileşim ve iletişim amaçlı alt ölçek puanı ile UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği puanının istatistiksel olarak anlamlı, pozitif yönde ancak çok zayıf bir ilişki gösterdiği belirlendi (r= 0.184; p= 0.013). AUSNS'nin diğer alt ölçekleri ve UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği toplam puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki görülmedi (p>0.05). Uluslararası öğrencilerin AUSNS genel toplamı (r= 0.180; p= 0.048), sosyal etkileşim ve iletişim amaçlı alt ölçek puanı ile UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı, pozitif ancak çok zayıf bir ilişki tespit edildi (r= 0.182; p= 0.046), (p<0.05). Sonuç ve öneriler: Bu çalışma ile öğrencilerin sıklıkla kullandığı sosyal ağın Facebook olduğu, erkeklerin, Diş Hekimliği öğrencilerinin, üst sınıfta eğitim görenlerin daha yalnız olduğu saptandı. Uluslararası öğrencilerin daha yalnız, sosyal ağ sitelerini daha fazla kullandıkları, aylık gelirin yanlızlık üzerinde etkili olduğu, her iki grupta da yalnızlık düzeyi yüksek olan öğrencilerin sosyal ağ sitelerini sosyal etkileşim ve iletişim amacıyla kullandıkları belirlendi.

The Relationship Between Social Network Use and Loneliness Level in National and International University Students

Abstract

Introduction: In this period, which is called the age of technology and communication; Social networking sites, computer, internet use and mobile phone are indispensable parts of university students' lives. University students mostly use these web sites to reduce the feeling of loneliness. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine relationship between the use of social networks and loneliness levels of national and international university students. Material and Methods: The research was conducted with 218 national and 134 international university students studying in health departments. The data of study were collected using “Sociodemographic Form”, “The Intended Use of Social Networking Sites Scale” and “UCLA Loneliness Scale”. Results: 59% of participants are national, 41% are international university students. It was determined that 53.4% of the participants used the internet for 1-3 hours a day. It was determined that the UCLA Loneliness Scale total scores of national and international university students and the AUSNS subscale score for social interaction and communication, the UCLA Loneliness Scale score showed a statistically significant, positive, but very weak relationship (r= 0.184; p= 0.013). There was no statistically significant correlation between the other subscales the AUSNS and the UCLA Loneliness Scale total scores (p>0.05). A statistically significant, positive but very weak correlation was found between the AUSNS grand total international students (r= 0.180; p= 0.048), social interaction and communication subscale scores and UCLA Loneliness Scale (r= 0.182; p= 0.046), (p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that social network that students frequently use is Facebook, and men, Dentistry students, upper-class students are more lonely. It was determined international students used social networking sites more alone, monthly income was effective loneliness, and students with high levels of loneliness in both groups used social networking sites for social interaction and communication.
