Shirin Neshat’ın Yapıtları Üzerinden Bir Sergi Kritiği

Abstract

Shirin Neshat, toplumsal cinsiyet, inanç, sosyal adalet ve insan hakları konularını araştıran pek
çok sanatçı için önemli bir yer tutar. Shirin Neshad'ın Batı ve Ortadoğu kadınlarını birbirine
yakınlaştıran çağdaş temsillerle İranlı kadınları konu alan serileri cesur ve gelişen bir ara yüze işaret
ettiği savunulmaktadır. Sanatçının “Allah'ın Kadınları” fotoğraf serisiyle başlayan serüveni, İran'daki
kadınların hayatına hem içeriden hem de dışarıdan bakıldığında durumun kendisi ve sanatı için
nasıl bir ilham kaynağına dönüştüğü görülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Neshat'ın İran Amerika
diasporasındaki serüveni sonucunda ortaya çıkan sanatsal çalışmalarının, “Güneşe Yeniden Selam
Vereceğim” başlıklı retrospektif sergisi üzerinden ve bir sergi kritiği yapmaktır. Araştırmada
sanatçının, “I Will Greet the Sun Again” sergisinde yer alan “Women of Allah,” “Turbulent,” Rapture,
“Fervor” ve “Passage” eserleri ile “The Book of Kings,” “The Home of My Eyes” ile “Land of Dreams”
isimli fotoğraf dizileri ve videolarını kapsayan yapıtlarına yer verilmiştir. Bu araştırma makalesinde,
Shirin Neshat'ın “Güneşe Yeniden Selam Vereceğim” sergisi üzerinden işlerinin analizi yapılmıştır.
Çalışmada sanatçının yaratım ve sergileme pratiğinden hareketle niteliksel ve niceliksel bir irdelemeye
gidilmiş. Sanatçının eserlerinde varlık bulan kavramsal arka plan bilgileri ve anlatı biçimleri
dikkate alınarak sanatsal yaklaşımı ve üslubu göstergelere dayalı olarak irdelenerek mevcut durum
değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır.

An Exhibition Critique on the Works of Shirin Neshat

Abstract

Shirin Neshat occupies an important place among many artists exploring issues of gender, faith,
social justice, and human rights. It has been argued that Shirin Neshad's series of contemporary
representations of Iranian women point to a bold and evolving interface that brings Western and
Middle Eastern women closer together. The artist's adventure, which began with the “Women
of Allah” photography series, shows how the situation has turned into a source of inspiration for
her and her art when the life of women in Iran is viewed from both inside and outside. The aim of
this study is to make an exhibition critique of Neshat's artistic works that emerged as a result of
her adventure in the Iranian American diaspora through her retrospective exhibition titled “I Will
Salute the Sun Again.” In the research, the artist's works including “Women of Allah,” “Turbulent,”
“Rapture,” “Fervour,” and “Passage,” as well as her photo series and videos titled “The Book of
Kings,” “The Home of My Eyes,” and “Land of Dreams” in the exhibition “I Will Greet the Sun Again”
are included. In this research article, Shirin Neshat's works have been analyzed through the exhibition
“I Will Salute the Sun Again.” In the study, a qualitative and quantitative analysis was made
based on the artist's creation and exhibition practice. Taking into account the conceptual background
information and narrative forms that exist in the artist's works, her artistic approach and
style are analyzed based on indicators and the current situation is evaluated.
